Team

We’re a small team of people from Portugal. We’re all geeks, love technology and challenging projects and we’re deeply inspired by recent amateur ballooning projects seen on the Web.
Each of us has experience with either the Internet, programming, DIY, bricolage or electronics. Celso, Filipe Varela and Fernando Afonso work for SAPO, a large Webportal in Portugal and Filipe Valpereiro is a teacher at UFP and has his own startup Inmotion.
We’ve organized ourselves as a team back at Codebits 2009 event when we found that we had common interests, and have been working on the project ever since (part-time of course).
We all believe that if you’re passionate about what you do, with a little talent and lots of work, you can achieve great things in life, no matter what resources you have or the obstacles you’ll face. This project is a simple and fun example of just that.

Friends of Spacebits:
Spacebits woudn’t be possible without the help of some of our friends:
- Delfim Machado (twitter) – Helped us with getting a great discount on Helium for the Balloon and made part of the team for our 6th Flight
- João Pedro (twitter) – He’s going to take photos and cover the official launch.
- Diogo Serra (twitter) – Donated a chunk load of L91 Energizer batteries.
- José Castro (twitter) and Bruno Rodrigues (twitter) – Helped us by proof reading this website.
- Pedro Couto e Santos (twitter) – He made the awesome Spacebits logo.
- Joaquim Pereira (blog) – Made a very nice mashup with Google Earth with our API.
